Solar panels

An essential invention in an eco house is a solar panel, in this section we will have a look into the advantages and disadvantages of solar panels.

The sun shines on the solar panels and the panels absorb the energy, creating direct current (DC) electricity.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • The sun shines on the solar panels and the panels absorb the energy, creating direct current (DC) electricity.

  • The electricity is fed into what is called a solar inverter. This converts the current into alternating current (AC) electricity.

  • The AC current is then used to power the appliances in your home.

ADVANTAGES

  • It is renewable.

  • It is an unlimited source of energy.

  • It is the cleanest source of energy and does not endanger or increase global warming, since it does not produce greenhouse gasses or dangerous by-products for the environment.

  • It has a low cost of use, after the initial investment in the manufacture of the components and the installation, which is the most expensive.

  • Clean energy can be produced that is cheaper than what is acquired through the network.

  • It is available all over the planet, so it becomes the best way to provide electricity to isolated places, where the cost of installing electricity distribution lines is too high.

  • The technology makes it possible to convert solar energy into electricity through photovoltaic devices and solar thermal energy.

  • Contributes to sustainable development.

  • It generates employment in the areas where it is installed.

  • Reduce the use of fossil fuels.

  • Reduce energy imports.

HOW TO USE THE ENERGY WE PRODUCE:

Solar lighting

  • This allows to improve the efficiency in energy consumption and reduce electricity costs, which makes it an alternative energy. Architectural trends increasingly adopt this type of lighting as the basis of sustainable design.

Heating

  • Solar heaters take advantage of the sun's energy and transform it into thermal energy through the use of water or air. Heating systems can be passive, using natural circulation, or active, using pumps to circulate water and generate heat.

Technology

  •  Such as solar chargers, useful for charging cell phones, tablets, computers, flashlights or other electrical appliances that work with solar technology such as dryers, radios, lamps, among others.

Plantation irrigation

  • Solar energy is an alternative to obtain electricity for pumping water for irrigation due to the absence of the electricity grid in distant places.
